About this deal

The first thing you notice about the Pro Breeze is the simple and mini design. The control panel has a simple On/Off switch and two indicator lights – there’s no built-in humidistat, laundry mode or other features found on full-size dehumidifiers. There’s also no digital display. Not everyone needs a high-performance dehumidifier, but those who do will often find themselves with little choice in which model they can choose. High performance usually also means high energy usage, which can wreak havoc on your electricity bills. If you find yourself in this predicament, the choice just became a little easier. The Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier gives you the high-performance functionality that you need while also still catering to your wish to conserve energy.

If you have a serious damp or condensation problem, it’s worth buying a model with a bigger tank so that it keeps working all night. How to choose the best dehumidifier for your home The Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier is a popular choice thanks to its relatively low price point that makes it one of the best value compressor dehumidifiers you can buy. As you might expect, this is considerably lower than refrigerant or desiccant dehumidifiers. Even the cheapest desiccant models can extract up to 6 litres/per day in the right conditions, so the Pro Breeze dehumidifier is only suitable for small rooms and mild humidity. As Chris Michael, Managing Director of the air quality brand Meaco says, inside the home, 'excess moisture in the air can come from drying clothes in the house, boiling vegetables, putting the kettle on, bathing, showering, open flame gas style heating, damp clothing, breathing, and the damp British weather.'Beyond that, maintenance is minimal for this machine. Because it’s white, it will show any dust that gathers on it, so it’s worth keeping the exterior clean just by wiping it down with a damp cloth occasionally. Plus, the MeacoDry Arete One also offers a built-in air purification function, so you don't need to waste energy having two appliances running at once. And at just 115W, the MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier is also very energy efficient compared to most compressor dehumidifiers. With that said, the low price means you wouldn’t expect it to match full-size dehumidifiers. It’s a lot cheaper and smaller, so it’s unfair to compare it with models costing five times more. Laura is also a freelance journalist and has written articles for publications including the Daily Mirror, the i, Metro, Stylist and Happiful magazine. Why you should trust us

I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all. While peltier dehumidifiers are energy efficient, quiet and reliable, these models remove much less moisture than other types. You’ll need to leave them running for long periods to gradually reduce humidity and they are not suitable for whole homes. Water Tank For comparison, Pro Breeze's most energy-effecient comprssor dehumidifier, the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier, uses 220W to the MeacoDry 12L Arete One's 151W, and costs roughly 6p per hour to run.The Pro Breeze Low Energy dehumidifier also has several other issues that the MeacoDry 12L Arete One does not, as you'll find out in my Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy dehumidifier review. That depends on your humidity levels and what you’re trying to achieve. You don’t always have to leave your dehumidifier on, but you may want to if your damp problem is severe. Also, it can be cheaper to run them at night.

Specification

In the CONTINUOUS mode, the compressor and the dehumidifier fan (at the set speed) run continuously. In this mode, the fan speed is adjustable. A dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air to dry out the room, depositing it safely inside its water tank until you are ready to pour it away. Its job is to help you reach the optimum humidity level, and some even purify the air, removing allergens and dust through their filter. One of the benefits of having a home is that you get to shelter yourself from the outside elements. Regardless of what the weather is like outside, your home should be nice and comfortable, with the atmosphere of your choosing. However, some weather conditions have the inevitable effect of causing the air in your home to not quite be to your own choosing, especially humidity and dampness. Both of these things in the home can be very unpleasant, as well as leading to even potentially harmful effects on your health. That is where a good dehumidifier comes in to save the day, and provide comfort to your home.

The dehumidifier has a very accurate built-in humidity sensor and an indicator light that shows the current air humidity. The light turns RED when the humidity is above 70%, GREEN when it is between 50% and 70% and BLUE when it is below 50%. Beyond that, this dehumidifier is very easy to use, the controls are all really well laid out, and there’s not too much to get your head around when it comes to operating it. Portability: A model with a handle or wheels/castors (or both) will be easier to move around, especially if you buy a large, heavy dehumidifier. If you’re only ever going to use the dehumidifier in one room and won’t want to put it away much, this might not be so important to you. It also has an automatic shut-off function when the tank is full. This is a standard feature on modern dehumidifiers, but we were pleased to see it included in this low budget model. In AUTO mode, if the actual humidity in the room is 5% higher than the set humidity, the dehumidifier’s compressor will start automatically and the fan will run at the set speed. Conversely, if the actual humidity of the room is 5% lower than the set humidity, the compressor will stop collecting water, but the fan will continue to run at the set speed. The downside is that this dehumidifier has a far lower extraction rate than most, extracting just 0.3 litres of water from the air per day. For comparison, the best in class Meaco Arete One dehumidifier can extract between 10 and 25 litres of water from the air per day depending which model you opt for. Water tank capacity is also reduced, with the Silentnight model only able to hold 0.6L of water. That means you'll be emptying the tank frequently. And, whilst this Russell Hobbs number is cheaper upfront, running costs are higher, with the 20L dehumidifier using 440W of energy compared to Meaco's 20L Arete One which uses 216W on average. Plus, the Arete One offers a built-in air purifier which this model does not. The only dehumidifier I've found that does a better job at clothes drying is the Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode. This powerful 20L dehumidifier made fast work of drying wet washing in my tests, although, it's likely its increased extraction rate helped it in this regard. I haven't tested the 20L MeacoDry Arete One which would likely perform on a par.

It does a superb job of getting rid of excess moisture in the air, the automatic Smart Humidity Mode works perfectly, and in my tests, it reduced the moisture in my damp-prone rooms to the ideal humidity level in a very short period of time.Air filter: Some models come with a HEPA filter which helps to provide cleaner air in your home, which will be helpful for any allergy sufferers.
