About this deal

For me it doesn’t matter as much if the new apps arent quite as good as the old ones yet as long as they have been written on a newer platform that easier to add missing and new features later rather than an app that was based on ds 4. Taking into account the latest 16TB hard drives from companies like Seagate ironwolf and WD Red, this means that the DS920+ NAS has a current maximum storage total of 64 Terabyte whereas the DS1520+ NAS supports up to 80 terabytes. This is demonstrated first in the scale of the available RAID 5/6 storage, but then more so in the scalability and upgradability of the 5-Bay system, allowing two expansions, greater network connectivity and better internal hardware than the more domestic targetted solutions – often with the internal hardware differing considerably between each periodic 2-3yr refresh by the brand.

It seems the limitations on background processing in iOS make syncing difficult and I found the DS Photo app limited due to that. I'm have a volume where every drive is 5 years old, currently hitting 3+ years of continuous uptime in my DS414.The storage manufacturer has a vast array of NAS enclosures catered to home as well as office users, with the Plus series aimed at the prosumer market. These drives will still be usable in their systems, but the user will be greeted by a warning message regarding compatibility. But the DS1522+ clearly has more recourse scaling possible and that will hopefully mean that you will be able to push several applications in higher frequencies each more on the newer system than the old one. I still think the DS1522+ is the better business and mission-critical performance choice overall, but the DS920+ is going to be better suited to home and prosumer users overall. However, the big difference in bandwidth potential between these two NAS centres around the DS1522+ features the option to upgrade it’s network connectivity to 10GbE by installing an E20G22-T1-mini 10G network upgrade in the available proprietary slot.

The DS1520+ NAS first arrived on the scene with some great hardware advantages over the (then 2 months sooner released) DS920+, arriving with a 4 Core Intel Celeron Processor that featured integrated graphics, 8GB of DDR4 2666Mhz memory and NVMe SSD upgrade slots. Note – Depending on when you are reading this, the availability of the DS1522+ or DS1520+ will be different. Setting up Plex on the NAS takes just five minutes, and thanks to the Celeron J4125 chipset, you should have no issues with streaming 4K content to devices throughout your home. It is only when you fully populate each device with more drive (as found in the 5-bay DS1520+ system) that you present the opportunity for increased internal performance, thanks to more hard drives featured in the array. The DS1520+ does not include an option to increase the network connectivity in this way (though unofficial and not officially supported USB-to2.Although the additional 4GB of memory will play its part, the fact that the DS1520+ arrives with 4x 1GbE LAN ports by default, compared with the 2x 1GbE featured on the DS920+ largely makes this an open shut case. From Package Center, you can find and install various packages for backup, business, security, collaboration, development tools, and other essential solutions.

slots, and four Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, the DS1520+ delivers all the hardware you're looking for in a high-end NAS enclosure. Staying at the forefront of data management, Synology innovates and adapts to ever-evolving technologies, and continues bringing new possibilities to the table, including but not limited to solutions for data storage and backup, file collaboration, video management, and network infrastructure – all designed with one goal in mind – presenting a centralized platform to simplify IT administration while driving digital transformation for businesses worldwide. With unpredictable internet connections at employee's homes, collaborating and sharing large files can be cumbersome. The Synology HyperBackup goes in any direction using whatever cloud and whatever tools you are familiar with.

You can set up cloud sync with your favorite cloud provides, create an alternative to Google Drive with Synology Office, and use Active Backup for Business to effortlessly manage backup tasks. This is largely thanks to their near-identical internal hardware, the Intel Celeron J4125 CPU, DDR4 memory and inclusion of NVMe SSD for caching. Both systems arrive with 4 1GbE RJ45 LAN ports, which can be combined via link aggregation/Port Trunking to allow up to 4Gb/s bandwidth between the system and a supported smart switch. Featuring an enormous range of desktop NAS solutions, mid-range rackmounts and PCIe upgrade cards, they have improved a number of the key devices in their product portfolio this year.

Microsoft Edge is base on Chromium, so any issues you have with Chrome will most likely happen in Edge as well. If I understood correctly it’s also a new concern with synology pushing the use of is proprietary disk! You can use all the storage pool capacity to create your volume and then administer your storage using shared folders. The 4-bay NAS is powered by the same chipset, delivers the same great software features, but has 4GB of RAM and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. and 5GbE connectivity via 3rd party adapters are possible (but I wouldn’t trust their long term stability really) and for many, this will be a deal-breaker between these systems in the same way the CPU differences between these two NAS’ does.So far this new Synology is WAY snappier, runs Docker faster, can run Virtual Machines now (although in 8 gigs, only small utility ones), and the SSD cache has made browsing family photos whip fast.
