About this deal

It was hilarious seeing Wylan and Feo bicker and our main couple envision a rivals to lovers relationship for them. It started out great in the first couple of chapters, but I really lost interest and found myself skimming, hoping for something to grab me.

It’s not a story of first love or even falling in love, but a story of two women who have been together for 2 years already who are stumbling through the transition from long-distance to being together every day and beginning a new life together. The book balanced cosiness and adventure well, with stakes high enough to avoid falling into repetition or boredom but not so high they take away the cosy part. The emergence of cosy queer fantasy is my favourite thing about the publishing industry at the moment, and this book included all the reasons why: glorious storytelling and world building, a healthy, joyful romance between two strong-willed, powerful women from different worlds, and an atmosphere I desperately wanted to be part of, if only to sip my tea and watch everyone fall in love. It also ends on a little epilogue which promises new as well as our main characters, and surely more shenanigans.

but then they’re both also so insecure, which keeps happening, and it felt more that they were telling me how hot they both were to each other and how good at communication than showing me. I found the relationship to be frustrating and more often than not felt like I was being told things, not shown things. Do you love reading books by the fire, warming your hands with a hot mug of tea, surrounded by beautiful houseplants and the cuddly embrace of your partner? I felt like it was just - a thing happens - it's resolved - all is well - another thing happens - etc. this book has a really bad case of telling instead of showing, and this was one of the biggest spots that illustrated that.Still, I did read the whole thing, and would be willing to recommend it (with caveats) to cozy fantasy fans who are more into *vibes* than a tightly-written and well-paced plot, provided you also aren't as wildly uncomfortable with ass-smacking in the workplace as I am. i love cozy fantasy, i love regular fantasy, i love lesbian romance, and was sure this would end up as at least a four star read, if not earning a place on my favorites shelf.

Although I wish Gossley had been developed a bit more for having a purpose beyond, seemingly, only existing to make Reyna look like a better and more empathetic person, I enjoyed the dynamic between him and Reyna nonetheless in between Kianthe and Reyna's never-ending banter. When she's not writing (or avoiding writing), Rebecca can be found traveling the country as a flight attendant, or doing her best impression of a granola-girl hermit with her two dogs.I'd like to thank Rebecca Thorne for providing an ARC of Can't Spell Treason without Tea in exchange for an unbiased review.

are they having a conversation or is this a buzzfeed article on the top 10 ways to have healthier communication? What follows is a tale of mishaps, mysteries, and a murderous queen throwing the realm’s biggest temper tantrum.part of the reason why i also think this fails as a cozy fantasy is that it was very hard to care about any of the characters. When she’s not writing or avoiding writing, Rebecca can be found traveling the country as a flight attendant, or doing her best impression of a granola-girl hermit with her two dogs. This story is also slightly more tense, and we get a possible mystery involving dragon eggs which makes for far reaching consequences, which I’m sure will come to fruition in the rest of the series.
