About this deal

Do we really need more YA books where girls turn against each other? Make catty remarks to other girls while friends stand around and try to contain their giggles. It's so cute to use your 'superior' intellect to make another girl the butt of your 'feminist' joke. a b Sheffield, University of (21 August 2014). "Holly Bourne: journalist, novelist, Sheffield graduate - Latest news - Journalism Studies - The University of Sheffield". www.sheffield.ac.uk . Retrieved 15 May 2018. The message of inclusion and understanding was torn to shreds by the little "feminist group" that the main character Evie and two of her friends created. They created the 'Spinster Club', which consisted of them preaching about topics (where they came across as naive and bitchy), talking about boys and tearing other girls down. After reading Am I Normal Yet, the first thing that came to my mind was: ”I have to get the second book ASAP!!!❤️❤️❤️” Daarnaast, waar het eerste boek erg ging over OCD, gaat dit boek over identiteit. Wie ben je, waarom, wat maakt je wie je bent, wat vormt je op welke manier. Geweldig goed uitgewerkt. En het probleem van de gescheiden ouders en een alcoholische ouder is ook erg sterk neergezet.

one of my favourite things was how the author gave us an insight into evie's mind. she gives things titles like "bad thought" and it'll describe the actual feelings shes going through it made you see her reasoning behind her actions and instead of just calling it 'irrational,' the reader gets to see what compulsive force is pushing her to obsessAmber keeps trying to justify her hate for Melody, but it comes down to this. : she hates her because she happens to like a boy that amber has a bit of a crush on and so she takes it upon herself to slut shame Melody for pretty much everything that she does. Holly Bourne has got the type of writing style where it's chatty like you already know the characters before you read about them yet her way of describing characters, settings and emotions are mesmerising.

I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for their next book to read. Holly’s an amazing writer, and she’s only gone and done it again with How Hard Can Love Be? This book was hard not to fall in love with, in many different ways and by using many different relationship examples, it talks heavily about the effects unrequited love can have on an individual. This is talked about most within the complicated non-existent relationship she has with her alcoholic mother. This storyline had me gripped as it gave me a new perspective on a situation of someone who I used to be close to and really gave me a new sense of empathy for them. I'm a massive fan of Holly Bourne's writing; every book that she has written, I have read, and every book that I have read, I have enjoyed. How Hard Can Love Be? was no different. The topics discussed (alcoholism, family break ups, first love etc) were really great to read about and I thought Holly approached them in a very accessible way. I loved the relationships portrayed, not just between Kyle and Amber but also Amber's friendships both old and new (although I'm really hoping that Whinnie isn't totally forgotten by Amber, I loved her and her wonderful philosophies!)
